HURRICANE ERNESTO

Hurricane ERNESTO's effects primarily bypassed the Low Country and Berkeley County. The Emergency Operation Center (EOC) was activated along with three voluntary shelters.

  • Berkely Intermediate School - Special Needs Shelter
  • Berkeley High School
  • Goose creek High School
Less than a dozen persons were sheltered during the duration of the event.
While there was little damage in our area, this event was useful as a shakedown for future activations. Communications between the area EOCs was maintained using the CARS linked repeater system. Communications with Berkeley shelters was maintained using the Berkeley County ARES Emergency Repeater. HF communications with the State EOC were never established.
